Book your flu jab now

It’s that time of year again to help protect yourself – and those around you who may be more vulnerable – by getting a flu jab. Here at The Private Care Company, all of our management team have already had our jabs and our carers are busy getting theirs as well.

Flu is contagious and it can be passed through coughing, sneezing or by touching infected surfaces or people. According to gov.uk for ‘most healthy people, flu is an unpleasant but usually self limiting disease with recovery generally within a week’. However, those over 65, young children, pregnant women, anyone with a long-term health condition and those who are immunosuppressed are at particular risk of getting a serious complication or illness if they catch flu. For these people, the flu jab is provided for free on the NHS and now is the time to do it.

The flu jab is not 100 percent effective in preventing the flu but it is the most effective method to protect against the virus and its related complications. And according to Dr Geroge Kassianos in a British Heart Foundation article, ‘if you do get flu despite having the jab, it will probably be milder than if you haven’t been vaccinated.’

Healthy adults who don’t qualify for the free NHS jab, can check with their employers to see if they have a flu jab policy or they can book with their local Boots who charge £12.99 for the jab.
