Coronavirus: critical workers status

The Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, announced that schools and colleges will now only stay open for vulnerable children and those of critical workers until further notice. The government has released a list of those who fall into these categories which includes health and social care.

The health and social care critical workers include, but is not limited to:

  • Doctors
  • Nurses
  • Midwives
  • Paramedics
  • Social workers
  • Care workers
  • Other frontline health and social care staff (including volunteers)
  • Support and specialist staff required to maintain the UK’s health and social care sector
  • Those working as part of the health and social care supply chain, including producers and distributers of medicines and medical and personal protective equipment.

It has also been confirmed that children will be eligible to attend school and college even if just one parent or carer is identified as a critical worker. Any staff with children should ensure they are registered as a critical worker with their respective school so that our ability to care for and protect our clients remains uninterrupted.
