‘Major incident’ declared at local hospitals

Last week due to unrelenting pressure on services hospital health bosses were forced to declare a ‘Major incident’ at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal. All non urgent operations were cancelled and people were being turned away until the hospital was able to free up beds.

In recent weeks the hospital has experienced spiralling waiting times for beds with 1300 patients waiting for up to 12 hours in the last five months and 25 people waiting for more than 12 hours.

The wards have also been affected by the Norovirus in recent weeks. It is also the time of year when people suffer more falls and trauma injuries.

At The Private Care Company we work closely with local GPs, district nurses, the falls service and other teams to try and keep our clients at home with the best possible care. We provide a 24 hour live in care service which can be implemented for our clients at short notice which alongside the ‘at home’ medical services provided in the local area can help to prevent admissions into hospital.
