Norovirus
The winter is upon us once again as are many illnesses and viruses. Many of our elderly clients are particularly susceptible. The winter vomiting bug or Norovirus is believed to have struck down more than 600,000 people across the country so far this year and over the last month some of the wards in our own hospital (RSCH) have been closed down entirely.
Symptoms include a sudden onset of vomiting and diarrhoea with some people also experiencing a temperature, headache and stomach cramps.
We would like to remind all of our clients, carers and friends to avoid visiting friends or relatives in their own homes or in hospitals if they have any of the above symptoms.
As carers we practice infection control techniques when visiting clients, hospitals or other places which may be subject to infection or disease.
